Our petition calling for Southern Water to be brought back into public ownership is growing each day. CABH volunteers took to the streets of Hove in recent weeks and with the online change.org petition has gathered over 1600 signatures so far! At 1250 signatures we reached our first target requirement to bring the petition to the council, which will happen in October 2025.

In July former councillor and CABH member Anne Pissaridou submitted a question about Southern Water’s persistent water pollution in Brighton and Hove to the council chamber, and also asked a supplementary question, urging the council to demand the government brings Southern Water back into public ownership.

The government’s Water Regulator Ofwat recently allowed Southern Water to hike their charges by 47%. This will take the average water bill to £703.

England and Wales are the only countries to have a fully privatised water system. No other country in the world has to put up with this. It is time to renationalise our water.
