Collective Action Brighton & Hove endorses David Maples, the independent socialist candidate for the Westbourne and Poet’s Corner council bye-election.
David is a housing and disability campaigner with vast knowledge of local issues, and considerable experience as a community campaigner and trade union representative helping families and individuals get the services they need.
“None of the main parties have put up any serious opposition to the last 15 years of cuts or the senseless wars the UK is supporting internationally. I will fight to defend council services and oppose cuts, to support welfare, not warfare”, says David.
Watch the video to find out what David Maples stand for:
The Labour government has announced brutal cuts to social care and disability benefits. David feels particularly strongly about this. He is a disabled man himself and fears that these cuts are going to sink around 400,000 more people further into poverty.
David is a fighter who is reluctant to be defined by his condition. He knows what it means to fight. To fight for his own health; to fight for a fairer future for all. Watch the video to get to know David the man, the disability campaigner, the fighter.
That same determination drives David’s campaign as a candidate in the local council by election. As a tireless advocate for local residents, he’s standing up against welfare cuts and austerity. From leisure centres to libraries, from schools to housing, David knows these are vital services that hold our communities together. He’ll work to keep them open, accessible, and properly funded for all.
On May 1st, vote for David Maples — a fighter who never backs down. The gloves are off!
