In early February members of Collective Action set up a stall and spoke to people on George Street, Hove, about the housing crisis in the city, sharing our new housing leaflet and a petition calling for the council to take action over developers.
Collective Action is warning that major new developments in the city are not designed to solve the housing crisis, with high rents and ever rising service charges. Many of these developments have failed to live up to the promise of creating new communities, rather they are ghost villages, unaffordable and unsuitable for most residents of the city.
Collective Action also joined ACORN Community Union in a solidarity action in Hanover, Brighton, in support of an 80 year old resident facing a no fault eviction. We support all actions to prevent evictions, which in many cases are excuses to raise rents with new tenancies, or convert housing to holiday lets.
